A selection of s and s documentary TV films of LGBTQ relevance.

When I was researching for this blog, I came across an excellent list of old documentary films of LGBTQ interest, courtesy of Will Noble on These programmes were shown on British TV in the s and the s, and many are free to watch online on the British Film Institute player.

You can see the full Londonist list here. Here are a rare that I have looked at and found very interesting:

An episode of &#;Speak for Yourself&#; from London Weekend Television in , where the London community of the Campaign for Homosexual Equality (CHE) made a film about their lives. Written by Jackie Forster and Roger Baker, it shows gay people chatting about themselves and attitudes in wider community, enjoying a boat trip on the Thames, and campaigning; there is also an interview with the programme presenter. The programme was originally screened at pm only in the London area. This is a sympathetic, well made and unpretentious film, which manages to convey a sense of solidarity and the flavour of the times. It is also fascinating to see people&#;s clothes and hairstyles!

First Footing Dance Residency

Greetings from Edinburgh and happy International Dance Day! Though initiated in honour of the birthday of French balletmaster Jean-Georges Noverre ( ), widely considered to be the instigator of the narrative ballets of the 18th century, International Boogie Day now celebrates dances from all times (past, present, and yet to be!), all geographies, all abilities, and all ethnicities. After all, Joann Kealinohomoku reminds us in her classic piece of sway research, “An Anthropologist Looks at Ballet as a Develop of Ethnic Dance,” just how ‘ethnic’ ballet is. Disputing the notion that ballet is somehow ‘universal,’ Kealinohomoku argues that ballet, like all movement forms, is couched in (especially European) cultural practices. She writes:

“Consider, for example, how Western is the tradition of the proscenium stage, the usual three part production which lasts for about two hours, our celestial body system, our use of curtain calls and applause, and our usage of French terminology. Think how culturally revealing it is to see the stylized Western customs enacted on the stage, such as the mannerisms from the age of chivalry, courting, weddings, christenings, b

Steeped of all moment, progressive, wacky and knows how to toss one hell of an event, Gay Edinburgh is actually a climbing celebrity on gay people&#; radars.

Easily one of the most gorgeous urban centers on earth and host to some around the world&#;s biggest arts celebrations, Edinburgh is a city that tempts you in and begs one to keep much longer.

Edinburgh undoubtedly has anything for all, assuming queer people can draw themselves from the all-night parties regarding the infamous ‘Pink Triangle&#;, they will certainly find globally famous art galleries, picturesque innateness, imaginative style stores, hipster coffee houses (frequented by actually cuter Scottish men and ladies).

And, of course, a fine amount of historical streets, panoramic views, and architectural treasures!

Plus – if you ever get bored stiff the larger but less-known
Gay Glasgow world
is not past an acceptable limit out!

Queer marriage is appropriate in Scotland since , plus in this tranquil and open-minded nation, queer people are welcomed everywhere with tiny rainbow flags on virtually every shop, club and restaurant window.

Absolutely incredible &#; I don&#;t need to say more, but I will!

Myself and my husband booked an elopement package with Becy, we had a lovely 4 day weekend in the Isle of Skye, and we were married in the Fairy Glen (stunning place.)

Everything was perfectly setup and organised by Becy, she made our weekend magical, listened to every little detail that we gave her, and even dragged my butt up mountains whilst heavily pregnant! (Becy was Pregnant not me…)

Could not ponder of anyone better to have organised our remain, wedding/humanist celebrant, ceremony, cake, flowers, video, photography, wedding reception/dinner, special non-alcoholic cocktail for my husband (who doesn&#;t drink), you identify it… she sorted it.

The photos and videos that we were sent after were absolutely incredible, I&#;d recommend going for the full elopement package inclusive of the dinner, optimal meal we&#;ve ever had.

A********** service
