Vanwege het vulkanische karakter van het eiland zijn de meeste stranden relatief klein en is het zachte zand donker gekleurd. Het zand op sommige stranden is bijna zwart.
De meeste stranden zijn ongelooflijk schoon (vele zijn gecertificeerd als Blauwe Vlag-stranden) en hebben een goed aanbod aan faciliteiten, waaronder ligbedden, cafés, bars en toiletten.
De stranden van Tenerife zijn het drukst van april tot september en bijna verlaten in de winter. Verwacht zelfs tijdens het hoogseizoen niet zoveel Gayseksuele zonaanbidders te vinden als in Maspalomas-strand op het nabijgelegen Gran Canaria eiland.
